![]() Other than that, though, personally, i think the original was rather good on its own: an effective compromise between the "shoot-'em-up" kind of action science fiction (e.g., "Star Wars" and "Starship Troopers") and the "cerebral, philosophical, introspective" sort of science fiction (e.g., "Solaris," "Stalker," "2001: A Space Odyssey," and "Upstream Color"). ![]() ![]() ![]() One minor flaw with the original is that humans are being used as "batteries" to power the machines, which actually makes less sense than using some other creature, such as cattle, or algae (or even wind or nuclear), for that matter supposedly, the original idea was that the machines exploited human brains for the computing power of their neural connections, but the studio allegedly felt that that concept was "too smart" for the moviegoing audience, and we ended up with the "battery" idea, instead.
